11 July 2011 is sponsoring the cross Channel travel for two cyclists hoping to raise much money for two very worthy causes. Freddie Smith, 21 and Sam Meredith, 22 have embarked on a cycling journey of 1,400km to raise money for two charities - The Cardiomyopathy Association and The Make A Wish Foundation. They set out from Calais on Friday 8th July and their 1400km journey will see them pass through Paris, Dijon and then into Switzerland along Lake Geneva. Finally, they cross the Alps and head towards the Mediterranean and their destination town of Bormes-les-Mimosas.
Freddie cycled 1,000km in 2009 for The Cardiomyopathy Association, a charity he is extremely passionate about. "Cardiomyopathy is a condition that affects approximately 1 in 500 people and results in the heart muscle walls thickening which can cause sudden death. My mother was diagnosed with the condition in 2006 and The Cardiomyopathy Association has been brilliant at providing her with support. She's due for heart surgery this year."
Sam, Freddie's cycling partner on the journey has also done previous fundraising work for The Make A Wish Foundation. Last year, he completed the Paris Marathon to fundraise for this great cause.
Both Freddie and Sam have set themselves the target of completing their grueling 1400km cycle in just 10 days.
